Time Loop!

Cyanide and Happiness is fastly becoming one of my favorite web comics to read. Here's a fine example of their stuff.

Also, I just want to let the people at Snorg Tees know that I am now fully in love with the girl in their web ads...

Sold. I will take as many tees as you want!

Ok. Now I feel 'net creepy.

Goodnight!

Dream Blog...

I will start this off by saying I usually hate writing about my dreams, mainly because they are never that interesting to other people. This dream however was epic and it's sticking in my skull so I am going to write it out.

The beginning involved the 2008 Presidential Election. For some reason Clinton won and I was very very upset. Because it was a dream we then jumpcut to me being in a production of Avenue Q as Preston. I don't remember any rehearsals but since I love the show and know basically how it goes I am able to stumble through the entire thing and impress the audience. There is then another jumpcut to me in a Jacobian film starring Mena Suvari and Billy Connelly, it is also being directed by Jon London. (That's the weirdest part.) While we are off set Mena and I are starting to get romantically involved, but then she runs off. I go and find her and she is dressed as a street urchin and playing the lute with Billy Connelly in some beachfront town. Then Jon and his girl are having a fight and I solve it for them. Right after that a huge eagle swoops in and grabs my collarbone and drags me off... that's when I wake up. (With a huge jolt by the way, since I physically felt the eagle grab me.)

I promise not to do this often beautiful readers... It just needed to leave my head!

Improv Restart!

Tonight I had, what I can only call, a renewal of faith. As I have said before, I have been in a rut for the last few months with my improv learning and confidence. I was in a bad place and taking all the wrong lessons to heart.

Tonight though. Tonight I got a jumpstart! Ash had a friend in town who teaches workshops in improv and runs a theater out of Austin. She had him come over to her house and teach one for a group of us. At the beginning I was feeling like I really didn't want to do it, as I was hungry and tired from having just gotten off work and sitting in traffic for an hour. All that changed once we started though.

We did a few warm up games to start and moved into two person scenes, to three and four and finally into a montage game at the end. The thing that he kept emphasizing was keeping and honoring what was happening in the beginning of a scene. That if you kept the basic idea alive it didn't matter where the scene went as long as you had that base line to tap in on. That really resonated with me. That and tap outs, which have always alluded me, they came clear tonight. Really what it came down to was listening and trusting my impulse to add to a scene. It felt brilliant. I can't wait for our L3 class to start next week.

I remembered tonight why I fell in love with improv. It's that feeling of complete satisfaction, like great sex. Amazing!

Insomnia #2

It seems as if this is going to be a constant reoccurrance as long as I am doing one day shift with my overnights. I tried to get to bed early one again tonight, and here I am, up after midnight, not sleeping and not being anywhere near tired.

I read an article this week about how to get better sleep. One of the things it said was to not try and think about how much sleep you need as that will cause you to stress and you will not get any sleep. It's true. And reading it hasn't helped at all, since now I know that it is happening and it's all I can think about. Such a vicsious cycle.

A few things have happened today that also do not help with the sleeping peace.

One. I didn't get the job that I had been hoping for, I found out today. They went with someone else. I am assuming it is for two reasons. The first being that their route is mainly in the West Side and since they pay for gas and upkeep of the company car, me living further then 10 miles out would put more miles then they would want. The second is that I was up front in my want to do auditions, and with me being the only employee they probably felt that it would be in their best interest to find someone who would be 100% dedicated to the job. They did send me a nice email saying that they like me and would hopefully have enough jobs in the future to hire me on as a second. Fine. Whatever.

Two. My friend Ash and her roommate came over today. I thought it was to hang, but they had walked there and were under the impression that I was going to walk back to their place with them to get some good exercise. Which I was glad to do as I had been watching movies all day. (You can't deny both Goonies and Empire Records on HDTV unedited, and in the case of Empire, with additional scenes!) But we hadn't gone more then a few blocks when my shin started getting horrifically painful! We are talking 10x worse then the week before. It was probably because I was trying not to look like a wussy fat guy and keep up pace with the fast people... but whatever it was I had to look like the waddling slob and turn around before we were even 1/4 of the way there. This doesn't help my ego or restless brain.

Those two things mixing well in my mind is why I am up now writing instead of in bed sleeping.

Happy New Year. Welcome 2008, you look like the same bastard that just left...
